Dice.com reported 79,400 open IT positions when it published the following list of most sought after IT skills, 46,500 of which were full-time.

1. Puppet—Companies are looking to make use of the Puppet IT automation tool so employees spend less time completing menial tasks on the computer. Puppet automation manages a company’s IT structure, removing people from the equation.
2. Cyber-Security—With more information and data than ever before, it is paramount that companies keep that data safe and secure. Those with skills in cyber-security prevent breaches or clean up after a hacker strikes.
3. Big Data—Big Data refers to data sets that are too massive and unwieldy to be captured, stored, shared, or managed by regular database managing tools. Analyzing Big Data is helpful to companies because it pays to understand patterns and trends and how they relate to human behavior online.
4. NoSQL—NoSQL, also called Not Only SQL, is a type of database that makes use of a simpler data storage and retrieval method. A NoSQL database is particularly useful because it can cope with big data, meaning it is better equipped to handle and manage a high volume of information.
5. Salesforce—Salesforce.com Inc is a global cloud computing company, and there is a high demand for professionals who can install and use Salesforce apps, most notably their CRM product.
6. Hadoop—According to Hadoop.Apache.org, the Apache Hadoop Project “develops open-source software for reliable, scalable, distributed computing.”
7. JIRA—Project teams use JIRA to organize their projects, assign work to team members, and follow team activity. In other words, JIRA is a project manager.
8. Cloud Computing—Cloud Computing is the use of a network of remote servers hosted on the Internet as opposed to the traditional methods of relying on local servers or personal computers to store, manage, and process data.
9. Information Security—InfoSec, as it is sometimes referred to, is the practice of protecting information. This could mean preventing unauthorized access, use or disclosure to modification, recording, or destruction of such information.
10. Python—Python is a general purpose programming language that strives for simplicity, and those who are familiar with Python will find themselves in high demand.
